Quote:

Boromir was the eldest son of Denethor II and Finduilas. Denethor II was the Steward of Gondor during the War of the Ring. Boromir had a younger brother, Faramir, and they had a very good relationship. Boromir led the forces against Sauron at Osgiliath, and managed to hold the city. He was sent to Lord Elrond in Rivendell to seek answers to a strange dream he shared with his brother.
He was a part of the Council held in Rivendell and was chosen as a member of the Fellowship of the Ring.
Boromir was a proud man, and valiant in battle, as he proved several times on the Fellowships journey. Aside from his sword and shield, Boromir carried the Horn of Gondor, passed down among the lines of Stewards since the line began ruling.
Boromir was tempted by the power of the Ring, and he tried to take the Ring from Frodo at Amon Hen. He was convinced the Ring could be used as a weapon against Sauron and wanted to use it to protect Gondor and The White City. His attempt to take the ring was what forced Frodos decision to leave for Mordor on his own.
Boromir was slain while protecting Merry and Pippin from an Uruk-Hai attack at Amon Hen, and the Horn of Gondor was split in two by an Uruk-Hai arrow. His body was laid in one of the river-boats and with him all the weapons of his slain enemies. At his side was the Horn of Gondor. The boat was sent down the river Anduin. Faramir had a dream where he saw his brother lying in the boat and so he feared that Boromir was dead.
