Quote: Aragorn was born on 1 March 2931 of the Third Age. His parents were Arathorn II and Gilraen, and had only one child. His father died when Aragorn was two years old, so Gilraen brought him to Rivendell. Here Lord Elrond took him in and raised him as his own son. He was given the name Estel, meaning hope, to prevent Sauron from finding the heir of Isildur. At the age of twenty Elrond told him his true heritage and he was given the Ring of Barahir and the shards of Narsil. Shortly after this he met Elronds daughter, Arwen, and fell in love with her. Elrond told him that he was not to marry anyone until he had proven himself worthy. Aragron went into the wild and five years later, in 2956, he met Gandalf the Grey. A friendship grew between them and they travelled together for a while. Aragron fought many battles against the evil of Sauron, but kept his identity hidden by using several different names. In 2980 he entered Lothlrien where he met Arwen. They decided that one day they would marry and Aragorn gave her the Ring of Barahir. Elrond would not allow the marriage of Aragorn and his daughter until Aragorn was king of both Gondor and Anor. Aragorn went back into the wild and in the year 3001 of the Third Age he went in search of Gollum. In 3017 he captured Gollum and brought him to the elven-king of Mirkwood, Thranduil. In October the following year he met the four hobbits Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin in Bree and led them to Rivendell. Here he was made a member of the Fellowship. When Gandalf fell in the Mines of Moria, Aragorn was made their leader. He challenged Sauron, using the Palantr, and then made for the Paths of the Dead. Here the Dnedain and his friends Legolas the Elf and Gimli the dwarf companied him. When they emerged from the Paths of the Dead he led free men of the west to victory at the battle of the Pellenor Fields. He was captain of the Army of the West who rode forth to challenge Sauron. When the war was over he was crowned king of the reunited kingdom and wed Arwen Undmiel. Together they had a son named Eldarion and some daughters. Aragorn II died on 1 March 120 of the Fourth Age, 210 years old. |
