Viggo Mortensen quotes
"What is Aragorn like? He is someone who is self-reliant and a little reclusive."

"Aragorn is deeply aware of the burden of his heritage, and he carries the knowledge that all too soon he will have to reveal his true self in order ot play his part in the fight against Sauron. That burden, that knowledge, is what shapes and colors his perceptions."

Previously best known for his role as a tough, poetry-spouting naval officer in GI Jane, Mortensen had a lot to learn very quickly - particularly as he'd never read Tolkien's novels.
"I had a couple of days to learn as much as I could," he recalls.
"Especially sword-work, because the first scene I had to do involved sword fighting. I was basically trying to read the book and the scripts, learn to use a sword and learn the Elvish dialect, and whatever the hell else I had to do, all at once."

"So, there I am on the plane for New Zealand reading that enormous, telephone directory sized book..."

"I'm Celtic and Scandinavian, so I was raised on the myths Tolkien used to inspire The Lord of the Rings. It's part of my heritage."

Press release:  Viggo Mortensen categorically denies laying charges
against Orlando Bloom, for assault and spreading jelly on the bloke.
Orlando Bloom (Orli) is his co-star in the Lord of the Ring trilogy.
Viggo, stated that he was misquoted by the press.
"What I actually said was that I was "paying" charges! Orli likes his condiments and the caterer on set charged extra for these
things...so, I was paying Orli's charges for salt, spread and jelly,
coz he was broke!  It continually surprizes me how out of hand these
rumours can get."

-Viggo correcting the press

One time, a cop stopped me in Wellington, because I was walking out of my apartment building with the sword, and I got in the car with it. I guess it would be an alarming sight to anyone at 5:00 am seeing me walking around with a sword. But, once I told the cop what it was for, he let me go. But, I did keep the sword with me all the time. I just felt that it was part of the job description.
