-ALL RECOVERIES AND TDS must be credited to the DEFENSIVE UNIT for the FANTASY DEFENSE to get credit

-"FUMBLES LOST (for the opponent of a FANTASY D)" will remain the official stat we recognize for fumble recoveries. So keep in mind: Ramsey gets picked off by Will Allen (3 points for Giants d). Allen returns then fumbles and is recovered by Rod Gardner 3 points for Skins D assuming it's credited as a Fumble Lost for the Giants), Gardner fumbles and it is recovered by Will Peterson (another 3 for the Giants) who returns it for a touchdown (total of 12 points for Giants on this sequence).

-ANY RECOVERY OR TD ON SPECIAL TEAMS will be credited to the FANTASY DEFENSE

-Obviously, all kick/punt returns are credited to a fantasy defense

-Any safety, including ones on penalties and changes of possesion are credited to the FANTASY DEFENSE of the team awarded the 2 points (we had this debate in 2000 when a Raider picked up a fumble at the 1, fell into the endzone and was tackled by a Seahawk offensive player-result-Seahawk defense SAFETY)

-ANY scoring resulting from a punting unit is credited to that defense, including fake punts that result in TDS (but no yardage or completions).

-NO scoring resulting from a fake or botched field goal will be rewarded to the kicking team, however, and individual starting fantasy kicker will receive points for yardage and scoring. This comes from the NFL principle that a Field Goal is an Offensive play and a punt is a defensive play.

-ANY fantasy INDIVIDUAL will get credit for any touchdowns. McCardell would get all 3 td's. Warren Sapp will get no offensive points unless he is started as a TIGHT END. Likewise, should Amani Toomer be thrown in as an extra safety and record an interception, he would not get the 3 points if he makes a pick. HOWEVER, he would get credit for a TD if he ran it back.

I belive that this covers just about everything that we may confront in defensive scoring and unless all nine of you think that something should be changed, these will be the standards we use throught the 2003 campaign. However, I believe the first order of business in the offseason will be to formulate a strict defensive scoring system that covers everything. I can't think of anything other than what's listed above, but that doesn't mean I agree with our system as the status quo.

Please dont misunderstand me, I'm not 100% comfortable with what I just listed, I am though, using precedents and foresight for everything and trying to remain consistent. Come the offseason, I'm opening to changing any or all of the guidelines. Personally, my biggest issue is that we penalize the Defense when their own offense yields points, but don't allow the offense to "reciprocate" with certain turnovers. But look, we can't change mid-stream. So keep this email handy throughout the year, I will publish it on the site later this week. And come February, we'll work on any changes neccessary.
