Mike attends Lake Windsor High School and plays on the football team. Mike is big competition for Eric Fisher. Mike’s future does not depend solely on football, he has already won a scholarship to FSU’s School of Engineering. Eric, however, has his complete future riding on football.

The problem with this is that Mike is as good of player as Eric. The problem, for Eric, is solved early in the book when lightening kills Mike. The lightening reveals a problem at the middle school.

Joey, the brother of Mike, attends Lake Windsor Middle School and plays on the soccer team. Joey starts off as a good friend to Paul. They seem very similar. Yet later, the reader is able to see his true nature, which reflects the community of Lake Windsor Downs.
