| Epilogue... | |||||||||||
| Darkness consumed everything around him. there was no shape no form - all he could hear was a distant whisper that seemed to be calling to him. it was getting louder and louder. | |||||||||||
| "Hey Tom! Wake up!" a voice shouted. He opened his eyes and found himself in an office cubicle. Waves of confusion washed over him as he staggered away from his desk and fell into the hall. "Shit Tom - sorry if I scared you. I didn't think you would be that jumpy," a woman in a business suit said with a friendly smile. She wore glasses and her hair was different - but he then recognized her. | |||||||||||
| "Tia? You survived?" he asked in modest disbelief. The woman smirked as she took off her glasses and helped Tom to his feet. | |||||||||||
| "That is pronounced - Tina - you forgot the N. silly," she teased. Tom looked at what he was wearing and then over at the desk he was sitting at. "You look really spooked guy. What's wrong?" she asked sincerely. | |||||||||||
| "You wouldn't believe me if I told you," he began. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. Tina watched as he rummaged through it studying everything he found. | |||||||||||
| "Try me," she suggested - leaning against a cubicle wall. | |||||||||||
| "I was - in another place - you were there too - it was a dark place - old," he began. | |||||||||||
| "Hey - you are right," she interrupted. | |||||||||||
| "I am?" he asked. | |||||||||||
| "Yeah - I don't believe you. Whatever you are drinking - I would lay off it," she playfully remarked patting him on the cheek. "The rest of us will be hitting the club after work - you want to tag along? I'm sure if you tell that story to the gang - they'd bust themselves up," she teased. When she saw his hands beginning to shake her smile faded. | |||||||||||
| "Was it all just a dream?" he muttered timidly. Tina walked over and placed her hand on his shoulder. He looked over and could see the worry in her eyes. | |||||||||||
| "I was just teasing - you know that? Look - you seem a little frazzled. Why don't you take the rest of the day off. I'll cover for you," she offered. Tom nodded and began to walk down the hall. It was strange. He had no idea where he was going yet he seemed to know the way. | |||||||||||
| He stopped and walked over to the window and placed his hands against the glass. He looked down at the city street below and the cars that crowded the busy roads and the sea of people that were crowding the sidewalks. It was then that everything seemed to stop. Time seemed to stand still. | |||||||||||
| Timidly he looked around - everything was frozen - his eyes then darted down and saw Lia amidst the crowd below. She looked up at him and smiled contently - tracing her hand over her swollen belly. | |||||||||||
| You have my thanks Thomas. You freed me from my ancient prison and allowed me to enter your world. Her voice whispered in his mind. | |||||||||||
| "This can't be real," he muttered. | |||||||||||
| Oh but it is. Unfortunately - things didn't work out quite like I had planned. You see - coming here - to your world - drained me of almost all my power. Her voice continued as Lia looked down at her belly. But - do know - that your son - shall possess all the power I once did - and his birth - will herald the end of all you hold dear. Her voice ended. He blinked. Everything was moving again. He looked down at the sea of faces - hoping to see where she went - but she was gone. | |||||||||||
| "Oh my god - what have I done?" he stammered - falling to his knees at the mere thought of what had happened | |||||||||||
