Magic: the gathering. The  cards of Forbidden Places
Note: as stated before - all terminology - reference to color, tapping, abilities and so forth are the expressed property of Wizards of the Coast - the owners of Magic: the gathering.
What started all of this out was a contest from Inquest magazine. They asked for people to think up an idea for a new expansion set for Magic. I looked at what they had out at the time - I believe the latest set out back then was Visions - when the cards started getting a little unbalanced(at least by my standards). So I thought - what if there were powerful  enchantments - creatures - artifacts - spells - but what if there was a darker cost to them? The power - with a price so great that it could turn the battle either way if used incorrectly. That was when I thought up - Forbidden Places. Sadly - my idea didn't win the contest, but with everything that I had pulled together I had enough material to make the book - Forbidden Places.
None of these cards actually exist mind you - but in the world of Forbidden Places  they do - and you can see just how much damage they could do and the terrible cost that each spell can carry.

Valley of the Leprechauns Legendary Land N/A N/A Comes into play tapped. Tap for 1 green Mana. Tap for 3 green Mana - lose 3 life. Tap and sacrifice for 5 green Mana - lose 5 life. Put 5 1/1 Leprechaun token in play under target opponent's control. Each token has: Tap to remove top card from target Library from game.
Toy Maker's Palace Legendary Artifact Land N/A 4 colorless Counts as both land and artifact. Upkeep: 5 colorless. Tap to put an artifact token into play. Token = any artifact in play. Remove all tokens if Toy Maker's Palace leaves play.
