Snapps Stories
Occult Following
Part one: disciples
By Richard LeBlanc
Throughout the streets and sewers - the news of the failed coup reached everyone. There were rumors and stories going around as to how it came to pass - but only those of high status in the prince's circle and high-ranking anarchs knew how things really went down and after several months had passed - everything was seemingly back to normal.
In an area of the Warzone - two rival anarch sects were getting ready to rumble. Most of the locals had made themselves scarce when things started to heat up - others sat back and waited for the show to begin.
"You're late - again," one leader growled.
"Get over it. Life is too short to waste time staring at a clock - especially for you," the rival retorted. In the time it would take a normal human to blink - it was on. Guns were drawn - dozens of shots were fired - and the two sides were locked in a battle that by most reasonable standards would be deemed an overt breach of the Masquerade.
Just then - a wind blew across the battleground - not enough to get the attention of the combatants - but it got the attention of the onlookers. They looked away from the fight and saw storm clouds rolling across the sky. A crack of thunder exploded the night sky so loud that it all but stopped the fighting.
"What the hell?" one fighter muttered.
"Looks like some Tremere is in a mood," a rival muttered - spitting out a bloody tooth. A flash of lightning lit up the sky - and showed a small group standing atop a ruined vacant building - but as quickly as they saw the group - they were gone.
"What is going on?" another asked as a fine mist began to seep up from the ground. Instantly the two rival factions were back to back trying to find the source of the weird happenings.
"Look out!" one shouted. He dived at his leader and knocked him aside just as a massive medieval style warhammer smashed into the ground where he had just been standing. The leader looked over and saw the hammer that had electricity sparking from it.
"Just when you thought things had gone normal," the rival leader muttered. The sect leader slowly got up and looked at the runic carvings on the hammer. "Shit - this thing looks old," he muttered.
"Boss - company," one of the others muttered as he pointed. The two leaders turned around and saw a small group watching them - save one that was glaring. He was almost seven feet tall and appeared to be over three hundred pounds. His face bore the scars of many battles - as did his arms. His long fiery red hair blew in the wind back towards those that stood a few feet behind.
"You drop something big boy?" the sect leader asked coyly.
"By the blood of Odin - your tone - I will not tolerate!" the man shouted. In a powerful motion he majestically leaped over twenty feet and punched his fist through the sect leader's chest. Then in a savage motion he ripped the vampire's body in two! The other vampires and ghouls slowly stepped away from the lunatic.
"Uh - not that I'm complaining hero - but - why you do that?" the other sect leader asked. The man slowly looked over at him. An aura of power began to pulse around the powerful berserker. "If you don't want to talk - that's fine by me," he added. The hammer flew into his hand and the spike atop it was instantly inches from the sect leader's throat.
"There is a rumor of one - in this city - that claims to possess - the power - of Thor," he began. His icy glare staring right into the depths of the anach's soul. "You know this person I speak of," he added - not asking.
"Well - no one heard him claim that - he was just slinging lightning like Thor would - why?" he replied seriously. The eyes of the man with the hammer churned to a glowing silver.
"You - a mere mortal - under an elder cure - believes he knows the habits - of a god?" he almost hissed - a minor shock flowed from the hammer into the anarch.
"Uhm - why - why is this getting to you like this?" he asked hesitantly.
"You should learn humility - you are in the presence of a god," one of the people behind the large hammer wielding man stated seriously. The comment made the anarch laugh - but a powerful backhand sent him soaring into a condemned building. "And he is quick to temper," the person added coolly.
"Uh - well - we have something in common then. Ice the lunatic boys!" the injured sect leader shouted. Just then - the sky above them began to churn. They all watched as the man slowly raised his hammer to the heavens. "Uh - we are waiting because?" he added hesitantly.
"In the name of he that guards the rainbow bridge - by the sacrifice of he who bound the wolf - in the name of the all father himself - I call to thee," the man chanted. Electricity churned in the spiraling clouds above. "I - am - Thor!" he echoed! A bolt of lightning shot down from the heavens and stuck the hammer. Everyone watched - in awe as the power seemingly flowed into the hammer. He then spun the hammer around - and then once again raised it to the heavens. Lightning - shot out from the hammer and struck down all that would have opposed him - all save - one.
"Thor? As - as in - god of thunder - Thor?" the sect leader asked hesitantly. Electricity flowed from the hammer through the body of the large man.
"You know of another?" the man that had warned him previously asked.
"No - why not I guess - we've had demons Fay - why not - gods?" he replied as the man claiming to be Thor slowly walked over to where the survivor was and motioned for him to rise.
"I - want the pretender's - name," he stated seriously.
"You mean - Skamms?" he asked.
"I have been told this name," Thor stated as he looked to one of the three that were near. "He is the one you spoke of? The blasphemer," he asked. The man calmly nodded. Thor then returned his attention to the sect leader.
"Indeed - my lord," he replied with a bow.
"You will find this man - wherever he hides - you will tell him - that his time of judgement - is at hand. He will atone for what he has done - and if - the gods above deem worthy - he may - rest in the hall of heroes - with the honored - dead," he stated as he touched the hammer to the vampire's neck. "Betray the will of god - and I will send you - straight to hell - understand?" he asked coldly.
"Deliver message - no betraying - I got it," he replied calmly. Thor looked at the vampire with disgust and walked over to where the others were standing. "So - where will you be meeting him - or the other way around?" he asked hesitantly. With a wave of his hand he motioned for his people to leave.
"He will know where to go," he answered without looking back. Within moments - he was gone and the funky weather that had filtered in - was almost instantly gone. The anarch looked around at the onlookers that were still in shock from what they had seen.
"Looks like it is going to be one of those days," he muttered as he hurried away.
