Gaia Wolf Returns to Edenville for Special
Concert
The Edenville Council for the Humanities cultural series
continues with a special encore performance by the band GaiaWolf
on Saturday, April 17, 2004
at the Edenville Country Store. The
band last performed in Edenville in December to rave reviews.
GaiaWolf, formed in 1999, was co-founded by musician and composer
E.C. Lorick and vocalist/percussionist Dawn
Casteel-Lorick. E.C. had been writing
songs for years but had felt a particular passion for writing about animal
rights and social issues. Although E.C. had enjoyed a lengthy solo
career as a singer/songwriter, accompanying himself on acoustic and electric
guitars as well as harmonica, his proficiency on the bass and his facility
with harmony, background vocals, and arranging made him a much sought-after
sideman in others’ projects.
Shortly after Dawn and E.C. had decided to pursue a larger vehicle for their
music, they met acclaimed acoustic guitarist/vocalist Marji
Zintz. Marji,
herself, had also enjoyed a career as a solo performer, the leader of a
self-named performing and recording quartet, and as a participant in other
projects, including a mostly a capella vocal trio
called “Sister Sound,” that called on her vocal arranging skills. Dawn
and E.C. invited Marji to a rehearsal and she was
enchanted by the beauty of the compositions and the solid melodies, but most
importantly, she was drawn to the mission of the group.
As such, GaiaWolf’s message and original sound are
conveyed via various world music influences that include jazz, R&B, folk,
reggae, and pop.
The list of places GaiaWolf has performed is extensive.
A partial list of venues includes Bodles Opera
House in Chester, NY; Doozie's Acoustic Music Café
in Callicoon, NY; the Animal Rights
Conferences for 2002 and 2003 in Washington, D.C.; the Unitarian Universalist Sanctuary Coffeehouse in Rock Tavern, NY;
the Appalachian Trail in a dedication ceremony, NJ; Applefest
in Warwick, NY; NYC Walk for Farm Animals at Columbus Circle, NYC; the Oracle
Bookstore and Café, Liberty, NY; Beacon Sloop Club, Beacon, NY; various music
festivals, including White Feather in Pine Bush, NY, and the Hudson Valley
Summer Music Festival in Poughkeepsie, and Beacon, NY; and the Howland
Cultural Arts Center, Beacon, NY.
As with other Edenville Council shows, this concert will take place at
the Edenville Country Store at 252 Pine Island
Turnpike in Warwick. Doors open for food and drink at 6:45 pm and the show will begin at 7:30 pm.
