My writing deserves a C because I write good papers,
but they aren't perfect. My writing sometimes does not flow together
or can be hard to follow because I
drift off topic. In Good Reason it states " The ability to write cogent
arguments is also highly valued in most occupations that requires college
degrees." One of my strongest aspects in my writing is arguing because
I am able to make a supportive claim and back it up with a persuading argument.
My downfall is that I have so many ideas running though my head it is hard
for me to express them on paper. I want to put all my ideas down in writing
and try to correlate them, but in reality in is impossible. Also, my choices
of words and grammar could also be a lot better. In the English syllabus
it says, "A student who has earned a C suffers from minor deficiencies."
I feel these are my minor weak points that could use a little improvement.
I put in a lot of imagination and creativity in my writing. By using
images and eye catching details where the reader can get a sense of understanding.
The content in my writing is clear and precise with supportive examples
and sources. Even though I have some small insufficiencies in my
writing. I am ready to overcome them and succeed in getting higher
grades on my work.
When I put together my paper I use clarity. To make
my writing clear I begin by breaking it up into different parts so the
reader can easily flow through it. I use a
lot of descriptions and details to give the reader a sense of my point
of view. Sometimes I have the tendency to break it down so much that it
starts to make no sense.
My style could be better, but with practice I will improve. In the
Ready Reference Handbook it states "Good writing is more than good grammar
or impressive-sounding words....it contains good ideas worth writing and
reading about, and it is written with power and conviction." My word
choices, grammar, and punctuation may not always be put in the best place,
but I believe that my words are stated effectively and with confidence.
My style is definitely unique because I put things differently than
others would. Organization is one of the most important key factors in
putting a paper together. My papers are usually well organized by
using an outline or a chart.
My goals are to keep up with all the assignments
and to attend class regularly. I believe that if I do that I will
be able to attain a C at the end of the semester.
Attending class for me will be a big challenge because I am not a morning
person, and since this is an eight o'clock class, it will be a constant
battle for me. I will have to motivate myself every time; if I don't then
I could fail for having too many absences. The ETL Department states
that, “A grade of F will be assigned if by the end of the course a student
has missed more than six hours of the course, regardless of the reason
for those absences.” Telling myself that if I attend class regularly I
will
know what is going on and what to do next. In Be Your Best it says,
“Research shows that active participation dramatically increases the amount
a person learns.”
Being in class will help me better my learning process. I am a firm
believer that the best kept secret to success in the classroom is to never
miss a class. This will also
save me some frustration and confusion that might occur later on by
missing lecture time. When I have everything together and finished I feel
great and that is
something I can be proud of. In Be Your Best it says, “ Before
you can succeed, you need to prepare. Indeed, preparation is the single
most important key to
success, not only in this class, but in college and in life.”
I get lazy at times, which causes me to fall behind in my assignments.
I know that if I keep on top of my
work and prepare myself, I will succeed and further my college education.
