TITLES
What do all those letters mean??????
SG Laresa vom Alpenhof CDX CGC HIC OFA H&E CERF RNMCL
SG is a German Show title. Laresa was shown before a German judge, Herr Rudiger Mai, by myself, and acheived her SG title. It stands for Sehr Gut in German, which translates to Very Good. It means her conformation, structure and movement is Very Good! A German judge looks at the entire dog when rating them, including teeth, colour and coat.

CD is a Canadian Kennel Club title. It stands for Companion Dog. To achieve this title, a dog and handler  must qualify with a score of at least 170, in 3 or more trials. Laresa and I trialled for this title when she was just 14 months old. She passed her first 3 trials, plus one more. Her scores were very high, 195.5, 195, 194.5, 192 out of a possible 200 points. We won many awards that weekend, including Highest Qualifying Score for a German Shepherd Dog, and HQS for ANY dog on the Herding Group, in all FOUR trials! First time in the ring, and it was a huge success!

CDX is the second level CKC Obedience title. It stands for Companion Dog Excellent. Dog and handler must qualify as above, but this time all exercises are done OFF-leash, and include a retrieve over a jump, drop-on recall, as well as Sit-Stays and Down-Stays in a group of dogs   with handlers out of sight for 3 minutes each time. We did almost as well as last time with              qualifying scores of 194.5, 194, and 192 out of a perfect 200.
Achieved in May, 2006 at the age of 3.

CGC is a title given out by the American Kennel Club. It stands for Canine Good Citizen. In this test, the dog and handler must complete 10 exercises that show the dog can easily be obedient around other people and dogs. Laresa passed this at 15 months of age. The Canadian Kennel Club equivalent to this is the CGN. (Canine Good Neighbour).

HIC stand for Herding Instinct Certified. This test shows a dog's willingness to work with it's handler, and livestock. In our case, it was sheep, and Laresa was tested at 5.5 months of age!

OFA H&E means that Laresa has had her hips and elbows X-rayed, and certified by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, that they are both normal, and show no signs of hip or elbow dysplasia.

CERF is the Canine Eye Registration Foundation, which records results from eye exams. Laresa was tested by Dr. Graham Lewis, and her eyes were normal.

RNMCL stands for Rally Novice Magna Cum Laude, which Laresa earned in March of 2006 with scores of 195, 197, 199 out of a perfect 200. If all the scores average above 190, the MCL (Magna Cum Laude) is added to the RN (Rally Novice) title. Laresa's average score was an impressive 197!
