An Old Man's Song While walking down a country lane, I heard an old man sing, A lovely sort of melody, With a familiar ring. I stopped a while to listen, Grasping every word, If you take time to listen, I'll tell you what I heard. He said,"I've lived a long life, Many lessons I have learned, From the Holy Bible, From God's written word, I've learned to love the author, He's been so good to me, Now, I am bound for Glory, To live eternally." When he finished singing, His face was all aglow, I knew that he'd met someone, I needed to know. I went back home and in my room, I got down on my knees, And cried, "Dear Heavenly Father, Your child I want to be." Jeannette E. Smith April 13, 2002 |
