The Dog & His Reflection
an Aesop's Fable with sound effects

One day a hound dog found a bone. (Yippee!)
and held it tightly in his mouth.  He growled (Growl) and scowled (Growl louder) at anyone who tried to take it away from him. Off to the woods he went to bury his prize. (Dooty doo)

When he came to a stream
(Whoosh, swoosh),
he trotted
(Slap knees for trotts) over the footbridge and happened to glance down in the water. (Whoosh, swoosh).  He saw his own reflection.  Thinking it was another dog (Woof, woof) with a bigger bone (Yum, yum), he growled (Growl) and scowled (Growl louder) at the dog.  The reflection growled (Growl) and scowled (Growl louder) back.

(All say:  "I'll get that bone too!") thought the greedy dog (Woof, woof), and he snapped his sharp teeth (Argh, argh) at the image in the water
(Whoosh, swoosh).

Alas, his own bone fell with a big splash
(Splash!), out of sight, the moment he opened his mouth to bite! (All say:  "Oh, no greedy dog!"  or "Oh, no silly dog!")

The End
Tell the story once and then tell the story again having the children
supply the sounds that are in red.
