The most critical task of a trainer is ensuring that learning takes place every time training is conducted. For this to happen, the trainer must not only learn how to properly organize his/her design or practice effective presentation, he/she must also develop skills in facilitating learning. This skill is more familiarly called Coaching. As we are very much aware of, coaches develop in their wards, the skill required to effectively perform tasks expected of them. A poorly trained ball handler may easily give the game away to the opponent no matter how good his teammates are. The same goes to a boxer who enters a ring without the necessary practice. (Sparring sessions) Here, we'll see that in order to do a job correctly, just like in attempting to win a game or a boxing match, there is a need to have a systematic approach in developing the required skills. Most often, an individual cannot do it by him/herself; there is always a need for a Trainer or a coach's intervention. In order to be effective, it is not enough for a coach or trainer to have the required technical skill or successful experience in the field (say, a former basketball player becoming a coach). It is even more essential that he develop the skill in facilitating learning and honing other people's skills.
The purpose of this workshop is to help trainers develop facilitating and coaching skills and show them how to integrate facilitating learning in their daily training activities.
OBJECTIVES At the end of the two-day workshop, the participants are expected to describe their roles as coaches and go through each step in the facilitating learning process.
