| Do Or Die! He knows he has to stop the puck He knows it is his job. He knows the game is won or lost On how many he can rob. He skates the crease and scans the net and checks the twine for holes He knows he must in every game take on many roles He scrapes the ice around him and moves the snow aside He looks towards the crowd as they cheer him on with pride. He knows this game means everything tonight it's do or die And some will skate the Cup around while others left to cry He expects a hard fought battle as the game starts to unfold He keeps his eyes in focus, he forgets about the cold. For he only has one vision one purpose in his mind To once again feel the pride few others rarely find To be a champion back to back and history to make And win this hard fought battle and finally make his stake. And his teammates have this feeling too they know the thrill to win And they must play a crucial part down at the other end He hears the buzzer sound, he knows that they have scored And his only thought is "hold on" keep that lead upon the board But the opponent is quite worthy and they fight a valient fight It's anybodys guess who will win this one tonight As they head towards him his eyes focus on the puck He says a silent prayer to God for just a little luck And he stones them several times and then he finally takes a breath He kept them scoreless that time with 14 minutes left But then an oddman rush begins a puck goes sailing by He now must shift his focus to keeping it a tie He sees this one is going long he knows it will come down To who can hold out longest and who can stand their ground As OT starts his focus grows stronger with each save He greets the puck time and again and follows every wave And then a second OT starts still he must be strong He knows his mates are wearing down. He knows it's gone too long He sees a quick opponent rushing down his way He follows relentless with his eyes and speculates the play The opponent fakes and passes and he hears a jubilant cry And he looks behind him just in time to see the puck wisk by. And the celebration starts but all for the other team He hangs his head and trembles for the puck he wished he'd seen. And his mates all gather round him as they know he'll take it tough The hugs and tears from all of them will keep him strong enough He lines up for the handshakes, his emotions hard to hide He shakes the hands, congratulates and skates towards the side And his ears fill with the ringing of a thousand screaming fans They chant his name in honor. Shouting "Eddie is the man!" He once again wells up with tears but this time with some pride In knowing he still has their love and faith in him abides He turns and waves and gives a smile He heads off to the room Although it 's rather quiet it's not filled with doubt or gloom For they all know that next fall they begin the ride again And will fight the hard fought battle for they have a Cup to win And he thinks of all the fans who stayed to show support and love And he counts his many blessings and it's them he's thinking of For he knows he'll see them next time and he knows they'll love him still As he and his team battle for the dreams they must fulfill And they'll start the long long road it takes to win the Cup again He knows he'll be surrounded by all his new found friends For winning is not something one can do just every time But he'll bring his best game with him. There'll be other overtimes. |
