The Toyota Motor Company, was established in 1936. By 1962 the 1 millionth Toyota had been built and the companies first overseas base, The Calty Design and Research Centre in Newport Beach was opened in 1973 and by May 1986 Toyota had opened its first US - based car plant in Kentucky. On the home market Toyota`s production rocketed from minscule begining`s to 2 355 356 in 1991, while over the same perioed exports had risen to 4 085 081 in 1991.

Toyota Motor Company, Japans largest and the worlds 4th largest car manufacturer generated sales of 106 952 million Euro`s in 2001. Toyota and its subsidiaries sold more than 5.5 million cars, trucks and busses world wild, under the Toyota, Lexuas and Diahatsu brands fro the fiscal year ending March 2001, and manufactures vehiclesin 24 countries. In 2002, Toyota will build North Americas first Lexus, the RX 300.

Toyota has manufacturing plants in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, South America, Europe as well as Australia. Toyota in North America produced over 1.1 million vehicles and purchased nearly US$13 billion worth of parts from 500 North American suppliers. The American production plant was opened in 1986 and materials purchased have grown to US$ 70 billion.

Toyota Team Europe was create in 1975. In 1986 Toyota won the Middle East Rally (86,87,88,89), the World Rally Championship in 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1994. Toyota won the WRC manufacturers title and finished second at Le Mans after setting fastest lap and pole positions. In 2003 Toyota entered Formula One Through its base in Germany
