The Groups business focuses on two main area`s: its core business of making vehicles and finance. Renault maintains an active interest in the truck sector through an agreement with Volvo. Focusing on its core business of making cars, the Renault Group is now one of the six world leadersin the sector through its alliance with Nissan and its acquisition of the Dacai and Samsung brands. The automative division designs, produces and markets passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks as well as agricultural machines through Renault Agriculture. Renault is the leading brand in Western Europe in all the passenger and light commercial vehicle markets. Renault Finance Division companies are controlled by a holding company called Compagnie - Financiere Renault, a wholly owned subsidiary of Renault. In July 2000, Renault aquired a 20% stake in Volvo AB. Some 60 companies including Europes largest car loan group in terms of the number of vehicles financed and two banks contribute to the groups industrial and commercial development. Revenues amounted to Euro`s 1656 million and the Group has subsidiaries in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Middle East, South America and Asia. Renault participates in various forms of motor sport, from Formula One, rally, endurance racing to touring cars. Renault first entered Formula One in 1977 and went on to win the world championship with their own team and then as an engine supplier to the Williams team with Nigel Mansell taking the title in 1992. Renault joined Formula One with there own team manufacturing their own car and engine in 2000 |
