In May 2000, BMW sold Land Rover to Ford for US$2.7 billion and MG and Rover to the Phenix Group. In future, the BMW brand will extend from the lower range (Mini), to the midrange segment (BMW) and to the luxury performance segment (BMW and Rolls - Royce). BMW Rolls - Royce GmbH aero engine business ahd a turnover of 683 million Euro`s, while the financial service business turned over 6 153 million Euro`s.

The business activity of the BNW Group extends well beyond automobile production The Groups variety and flexibility includes the BMW Financial Services, Softlab GmbH for systems and IT applications and the Bavaria Wirtschaft - Sagentur (international Insurance specialists).

BMW participates in all forms of motor sport, from motor cycling, saloon, rally, Formula 2, Endurance racing and Formula One. BMW first entered F1 with the Brabham F1 Team in 1980 and won the title in 1983 with the Williams Formula one Team before entering Formula One with its own cars and engines.
