- March 5, 2001
purchased it
- March 6, 2001 Joe
stripped it and gets most of it race ready. (new clutch, nology, kreemed tank, bondoed and primered
bike.)
- March 20, 2001 YSR
brought to DP's house for tuning, fork rebuild, installed tires, and safety
wiring.
- April 10, 2001 got it
back from Dave and it rode like a rocket.
- April 15, 2001 blew
up engine playing w/in back roads…brought it back to Dave for complete
Top-end rebuild. This is when we
realized it was a 44mm bore which equates to almost a 60cc engine. No wonder it was faster than Craig’s
Super sport, which had a complete motor rebuild with porting. It was a mystery for 5 days until
this unfortunate event. Anyway
Craig is happy to know his bike is faster, and he wouldn’t have to shoot
it with his gun….no really…he wanted to.
- April 16, 2001
Luckily Joe had a spare engine with a 2nd overbore (40.5mm)
cylinder which he let me use. I
ordered parts from Team Calamari.
- April 18, 2001 Parts
arrived and DP had it ready to go the same day for testing. It was not as fast before since it is
now a legal race able 50cc, but good enough.
- April 22, 2001: My first race: It was the 3rd YSR
race into the season and I finished 17th out of 22 entries in
Novice Super sport.
