Current playing: Jazz quartet - A new project playing jazz standards in a contemporary style, the quartet will be gigging at the beginning of 2005.
My musical background: I have been playing drum kit for 10 years and have achieved grade 8 during this time. I have played with several live bands, from this I have gained experience in recording and performing. I have completed a BTEC National Diploma in Jazz at Exeter College where I have gained the ability to record and mix audio tracks. Also I have have gained the knowledge to compose and perform to a relatively high level. I am currently studying a BA Honours in jazz at Middlesex University to further my knowledge in performance and composition.
Teaching: I have been teaching the drum kit for two years to pupils aged between 7 and 11. I tend to use grades to help my pupils to learn as I find it gives the pupil something to aim for. I encourage notation reading as I believe this is a vital part to drumming, however I ensure that the pupil has a good 'feel' for the music as drumming can become a very mechanical process. My aim whilst teaching is to make lessons enjoyable and to include important aspects of music.
