| I like to wear water shoes when I am launching the kayaks and getting them out. Walgreens and Wal-Mart have water shoes for a reassonable price if you need a size other than 9. I think we have one pair of 10's also. | |||||||||||||||||||
| Carry the Kayak(s) across the street and you can either launch them from the shore, or carry them onto the dock and slowly lower them into the water. If you launch from the dock, it is a good idea to tie one of the ropes to the kayak so it doesn't get away from you, or have someone in the water when you lower it down. | |||||||||||||||||||
| When finished, paddle to the shore to the left of our dock and lift them up over the sea wall. Do not leave them in the water, even if they are tied up. Bring them close to the house or in the backyard.Turn upside down to drain any water. | |||||||||||||||||||
| I like to paddle along the shore, not too close, but where it is shallow. The average depth of the river is 3-5 feet. Also, when you paddle parallel to the shore, the current will help you either there or back. I like to paddle against the current at first and then when I come back just let it bring me in. If you paddle all the way across, it is still pretty shallow except for when you cross the channel, that is pretty deep. No big deal ifyou have a life jacket on. It is easy to get back on if you tip. I have never tipped in the River though. |

| The green Kayak is self-bailing--it has two holes that drain water while you are in it. It lets a little water in, but not much. The blue kayak has 2 rubber plugs. Make sure they are closed before you take it in the water. If you let too much water into the boat, you can unplug one of them and it will drain it, then just plug it up. I haven't had any problems with it. |
