Plant and Animal Species Extinction
At the beginning of the century, about one species per year became extinct. Today scientists conservatively estimate that from 5 to 50 species per day are being lost forever. This is 1,000 times faster than at any other time in the last 65 million years. Plants and animals are being eliminated because we are cutting down their homes and replacing them with cities, factories, golf courses and industrial farms. Hunting for profit and pollution are also responsible. Species of rhinos, tigers, frogs, large amphibians, sea turtles, orangutans, pandas, fish and whales, to name a few are all nearing extinction. It is our responsibility to support animal conservation measures and not buy any products (such as ivory, turtle shells and fur) that come from endangered animals or their homes.
