ECO identified different forms of racism and intolerance in Malta particularly political polarization, prejudice against tourists from Arab countries and minorities, and intolerance between residents of various regions in Malta and Gozo. Nonetheless the problem of racism is not as acute as other countries in Europe, so ECO's campaign is a preventive one more than anything else.

ECO has organised a number of activities in this campaign besides the three posters issued together with UNITED. ECO also distributed a book to Maltese, Personal and Social Education teachers which includes various ideas of what could be done in class to make students aware of the negative aspects of racism, intolerance and prejudice. ECO also produced an exercise sheet with anti-racism games, which was distributed in all schools. |

The main activity organised by ECO as part of the ONE RACE HUMAN RACE campaign was Colours in Rhythm was a two day concert organised in 1996 with the theme Tolerance and Diversity. During that year the focus of the campaign was on violence against minorities. Racist attacks are
provoked where there is fear of the unknown and the first victims
of this fear are always The theme Tolerance & Diversity promotes understanding and acceptance of what and who seems to be diverse - a specific contribution we individually make to the common attainments and advancement of humanity as a whole. The message promoted by ECO is 'complement not conflict'. Let difference unite not divide. ECO chose a concert as the dimension for reconciliation because it believes that music transcends the barriers of race, language, sex and religion. Music knows no minorities. |
