Easter ~ Eostra

Eostara (Easter) is the time of Spring when day and night are equal. A time of Re-birth when plants, leaves and flowers burst forth in bloom and their lovely greenery. New beginnings. New life,
It is also the time of Fertility and the Goddess.
Some symbols of fertility and the Goddess are rabbits and  colored eggs.
We gather wildflowers or fresh flowers and delight in the Goddess.
The celebration of Easter is close to the Spring Equinox and was a feast day for the goddess Ishtar/Astarte/Esther and celebrated her new birth.
It is also the time when Peresephone returned from the underworld as a young woman and rejoined her mother Demeter the Goddess of the Grain, the giver of crops.

Many of the supposed Christian symbols have been "borrowed" from the Pagans. Like "chocolate" or  stuffed toy rabbits and dyed eggs. Easter Sunday is the "traditional" day or time for the Christians' Ressurection Day of the Messiah Jesus.

The veil of the temple (a wall) was torn in two from top to bottom, signifying the passing of the old order for the new. The cross takes the dominant position, although the old law (the tablets with the 10 commandments) is still the basis of the new law. Christ, the son of David was nailed to the cross, a most humiliating form of execution. The humiliation of the Jews is echoed in the identification with the yellow star which they had to wear in europe during the Second World War. Mary's strength is symbolised by the stone jar used for oil, John the evangelist is the eagle, his writings soaring to higher and higher levels of spirituality like the spiral flight of an eagle towards the sky.
