The Borderline

London, UK

Sorry that this is a short review. I saw the show this Spring in London and did not have time to write a review then. This was a cool show and a neat location to see it too. The Borderline is a cool little pub/club right on the edge of Soho. I got to the place early and got a nice seat right at the bar with a good view. There were two opening acts. The first was a woman whose name now eludes me, but she was quite good. She sang inspired original songs in a Joni Mitchell style. The next act was some American guy and a larger band. His band was good, but I found his songwriting to be somewhat below par.

Next up Geoff Muldaur took the stage. During his relatively brief set he serenaded the crowd with a nice mix of original songs and choice covers like Mississippi John Hurt's "Chicken Song". He played all by himself accompanied only by his acoustic guitar. He did have to fight the noisy crowd at the back of the bar for the whole show. He also told some great stories including one about driving all night with New Orleans songwriter, Bobby Charles and listening to the "The Rites of Spring". All in all a fun night in Soho.
