currently a graduate student at Digipen Institute of Technology. Being able to work in the game industry has always been a dream of mine, but due to many responsibilities, mainly to my family, I wasn't able to pursue it. Besides, having been working for Sybase for so many years, it was getting harder and harder to change my focus in terms of career path. One day I just thought if I put it off any longer I would never be able to ever try my hand on making games. So, I quit my job at Sybase and took my wife and son to Redmond, WA so that I can pursue what I wanted to do. Now, I might hate it once I get into the industry, but my philosophy is better to have tried than have never tried at all.
I love Digipen. The students here are very smart. Working on the game project is fun. One thing I've learned so far is that making a game is relatively easy ... making it fun is the hard part.
Once upon a time, I spent a lot of time putting together car and Gundam models. I still like doing it, but time is no longer a luxury. But, I do intend to pick this up again. I have some boardgame figures to paint ... if only Michelle can remember where she hid the 100 bottles of paint I had.
Obviously, playing video game is my all-time favorite. I like any game that's fun. I've played The Movies recently. While not a bad game, it gets old kind of fast. It seems pretty hard to make a good game these days. Not many games are worth replaying. I play MMORPG whenever I can. I've played quite a few of them out there. Only play WoW now, but wife wants me to close the accounts ...
Exercise-wise, I like swimming and badminton. Well I haven't played badminton for many years, but I swam last summer 2 - 3 days a week. It was free and I needed the exercise. Since we've sold our house though, we can no longer use the residential club's swimming pool, and the fact that we've moved from California to Washington puts us pretty far from the swimming pool hehe.
I also like playing Magic the Gathering. Have a whole bunch of cards in the closet. Have a lot of cards online too, but I haven't touched those in a long long time ... hmm they're probably gone.
Recently, my friend got me interested in boardgames. So, I went to a local game store and I was amazed by how many board games exist. Not the kiddy games people buy at Toys R Us but games like Runebound, Warcraft board game, etc. etc. Now I just need to get Michelle interested in them hehe...
Make Michelle and Nathan happy of course.
Goal for the next couple of years: finish the Master program at DigiPen and get A's on all classes! Oh and learn the material really well. Then, get a job as a game developer.
Obviously, this isn't my actual resume. Perhaps, some day I'll post it here. But for now, just a little information on my educational and professional background.
