Lunar: Sanpo Suru Gakuen

This gamegear-only Lunar spinoff (although it was later changed and ported to the Saturn) is a surprisingly good game, and only on the gamegear. It has a very refreshingly original story that is quite enchanting in many ways. The characters are funny and well-thought, and the dialogue is very well made. This game is perhaps the best game the gamegear has (had) to offer; while other games are often just watered-down, simpler versions of games for the megadrive, this game is an original creation only for the gamegear.

Features of this game:

  • A large world to explore
  • Graphics and explanations for all icons
  • Many beautiful character portraits, including different expressions
  • Catchy tunes!
  • The ability to save anywhere except during battle
  • A long and involving story

Some things to remember while playing the game:

Talk to the teachers as much as possible, i.e. when an event occurs, during a new chapter, or after gaining levels. This is the only way that you can learn new magic spells.

Standing still and doing nothing will regain your MP. The robes that are sold in the robe shop speed up this process.

There is no need for you to buy items, since you can heal using magic, your MP rejuvenates automatically, and if you are ever defeated in battle, the defeated character will have 1 HP (and be conscious) after the battle is won. Save your money for robes.

You can mix certain items together to make stronger items; however, this isn't really necessary, as you can get by without items.

Be patient and fight all the monsters. Remember, you can always heal yourself by standing and regaining your MP and using heal spells. It is quite easy to run away from most monsters, but it will be worth it in the end to gain more levels.

Yes! I have played through the game already!
