Ragging

Go to Top

Ragging is a punishable offence. Ignorance of law is not an excuse with which you can escape punishment. Ragging is prohibited as per Andhra Pradesh Anti-Ragging Act, 2002.? If you do not know what ragging is, get in touch with your class teacher immediately and know the facts. No student should directly / indirectly indulge in Ragging any student anywhere. Do not participate in ragging, do not encourage ragging, do not be a mute spectator to ragging.? Report any kind of ragging immediately to the nearest college staff either by phone , in person or through email.? Let us eradicate the evil of ragging through a united effort.

Dress Code

Go to Top

Although there is no uniform in college, it is also important to differentiate between stylish dressing and objectionable dressing. T-Shirts are not allowed in the campus for both the boys and girls.

You are also not permitted to wear? trousers with too-many pockets such as baggy, cargo type trousers. Jeans are permitted. Just make sure there are only two to three pockets as in normal trousers.

You are not allowed to wear pants with loud designs on them (embroidery/lace work). Please check with the staff on duty in case of any doubt one day before you plan to wear the dress to the college. Also, discuss with your class teachers , parents and counselors to know what dress-code is and how you should take care of proper dressing for occasions. This will help you all through your social life.

Punctuality

Go to Top

All students are expected to be inside the campus at least 15 minutes before the start of the class-work.

Please make sure that you follow this always without fail. The gates will usually be closed, once the classes start. However, they may be opened after a short duration. Co-operate with the staff on duty, be polite to them and go quietly to your class. Do not enter a classroom while in progress, without taking the permission of the class teacher. Be quiet, courteous and considerate to others. Remember, it is not necessarily play-time, when you are not in the class.

Permission to leave

Go to Top

Some days,? you may have important reasons to leave the campus before your scheduled time of departure. It will be wise to give, either your class teacher or the HoD, the reasons for leaving. Please remember that the administrative staff is there to take care of your problems too. Leaving without counsel especially in an emergency may not be wise.? Ask for help when you are in need of help. Also, frequent habit of leaving without informing the teacher concerned/HoD would only brand you as a student who is not serious about class-work. This may add more pressure on you unwittingly.

Classroom conduct

Go to Top

Class-room is a place for teacher-student interaction. Unless otherwise suggested by the teacher, you should not divert your? attention from the ongoing lecture. Doing anything else is impolite to your neighbours and the teacher. You are about to get a professional degree, it would not be proper to behave unprofessionally. It is possible that your interest in the lecture has reduced and you are feeling tired or bored. This should not be a reason to disturb the class. You must realise that class-room listening and active-note-taking are important skills that must be acquired through careful planning and practice. Please ask for help in case this is becoming a chronic problem for you. Do not presume that you can decide what to listen and what not to listen. Focus on your attention deficit problem before arriving at unwise conclusions such as avoiding the lectures, switching off, absconding the class-work etc. pay attention to other students and learn from those who set a good example.

Library conduct

Go to Top

The rules are same as in any other library. A good student always frequents the library for the right reasons. You must plan your library sessions meticulously. Your focus must be on becoming familiar with the different styles of explanation of topics by different authors. This will indirectly sharpen your reading comprehension making you stronger in the subject.? You must also acquaint yourself with the? various magazines/journals that are? made available. Do not restrict with the newspapers/magazines you are already familiar. Sail into new territories. Meet new people and new ways of communication through the magazines. Start practicing the styles you like , or evolve your own style. Needless to say, do not talk loudly in the library. Also , it is your duty to remind any other student not to do so in a polite manner. It will only enhance your self-pride and dignity.

Laboratory conduct

Go to Top

Laboratory is the place where you practice? what you learnt in the class-room. It is not a ritual that needs to be completed whether you like it or not. You will only get as much as you give to the lab. More effort brings more knowledge. Do not restrict to the bare minimum that is stipulated in the syllabus, use the lab instruments and tools to your maximum advantage. Lab is the place where time should cease to exist. You must plan every lab session meticulously , work towards completing all planned tasks? and carefully note down all the observations. These efforts usually clear old doubts while raising new ones. This may be bewildering to begin with, but once you get into the rhythm, you will start enjoying it. This will be your first step towards becoming a true professional.

Outside Classrooms

Go to Top

You must help your class-representative by following three simple rules whenever you find that your class-teacher is not coming to the class.

  1. Be quiet, while your class representative checks with the HoD about alternative arrangements.
  2. Be quiet until the next teacher takes over the class. Do not rush outside the class-room , like wild horses running out of a ranch. The subsequent noise and nuisance is highly inconsiderate to your fellow class-mates and friends in other neighbouring classes. No class is no reason to raise the decibel levels outside the classroom.
  3. When a teacher is not made available to conduct the class, do not jump out of the class-room as if all hell broke loose. Be quiet and plan to go to the laboratory, library, do an assignment, read a book or write a letter. Use the time wisely. It is your personal time. Do not waste it through unplanned activity.

Lastly, do not make it a habit of leaving the campus permanently just because one class-teacher is absent. If you do so frequently, realise that you have an attitude problem.

Inside the Campus

Go to Top

Unless you are specifically directed to do so, you are not supposed to appear at places in the campus? other than rooms/labs/halls given in your class time-table. Make sure, you always carry your class time-table . ALWAYS. Know the names of your teachers and? remember what class you have next. Do not move around the campus like a lazy soul not knowing what to do or where to go. It is unprofessional. Make sure that you wear your identity card when you are on campus. When confronted by the administrative staff/faculty/security, do not be afraid but give the correct reason for? being where you are. The response from the staff will depend on how well you were able to convince them. Be prepared for a dressing down in case they are not convinced.? Make sure you project yourself as a studious and rule abiding student on the campus.? Remember, you are on your own when in un chartered territory.

Outside the Campus

Go to Top

When you are outside the campus, you are basically a free citizen. However, it would be wise to know that you are seen by the world as a student of SVIT. You therefore represent the spirit of SVIT. Whatever you do , you may do with your free will, but the world will attribute a part of your actions / consequences to the college where you are currently studying. To understand this , just look at how we would judge others.? Therefore , you must realise that freedom always comes with responsibility. You must therefore exercise your freedom wit responsibility to your self-pride, your college-reputation and your family-reputation which are priceless possessions whose value will be known only when you lose them.

In other colleges

Go to Top

When in other colleges either on personal work or representing SVIT, your responsibility increases many times. You are no longer free to do what you like. You will be seen not as an individual but as a stereotypical image of an SVIT student. You are representing all the hopes and aspirations of your class-mates or college-mates. You must never behave in a way the brings disrepute to your college. When you win, be considerate to the losers. Reach out and befriend them without going overboard. When you lose, lose graciously. Reach out to congratulate from the bottom of your heart. Remember, one day, you could be on the other side expecting similar treatment. A positive attitude would ensure that you always win ? whether you win or lose.

Ragging

Go to Top

Remember, ragging is a punishable crime with fine and also jail term. Needless to say, your dream of becoming an engineer will go up in smoke. You will have a case registered in the police station because of which you wll not get a passport/visa.? As per law, your photograph will be displayed on the notice boards to forewarn other students of your despicable act. So, think before you indulge in ragging. Know the difference between foolishness and bravado. Save your life? by staying away from ragging.
