Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

INTASC # 6

·  Brief Description of Evidence:

The first week that I was at CUMNS KIDS, I sent a letter home to the parents.  The letter with my picture was posted on the wall next to the doorway informing them that I was going to spend time educating their child.

·  Analysis of What I Learned:

By keeping the parents informed of what was going on in their child’s life, they felt more secure and confident that their child was in good hands.  By letting the parents know who I was, I was able to personally know the parents, children, and their family life.

·  How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Principle:

By sending this letter and posting it in the hallway by our doorway, I am fostering a relationship with the parents and helping support the students’ well being.  The letter is a great example of my written language and I bring that language into the classroom when I teach.

Dear Parents,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I will be assisting Mrs. Cleveland, Ms. Amy, and Ms. Fadila in teaching your child for the next eight weeks.  My name is Jennifer Brown, and I am attending Ball State as an Early Childhood/Special Ed. major and I am now in the process of student teaching in order to gain some actual classroom experience outside the walls of a lecture room.  I am both nervous and excited to be given this opportunity to experience what it is like to actually be given the chance to use the knowledge that I have gained from my past 4 years of college.

I also hope that your child will benefit from his or her experience with me as one of their teachers.  I encourage you, as the parent, to ask the child what happened each day and to go over what they may have learned during the day.  I hope that the rest of the school year turns out well for you.

Sincerely,

                                            Jennifer Brown
