Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact
INTASC
# 5
· Brief Description of
Evidence:
I reflected on what I believe is a good way to discipline
or guide a child.
· Analysis of What I Learned:
Consistency is a must.
· How This Artifact Demonstrates
my Competence on the INTASC Principle:
This is a reflection on discipline in the classroom. The behavior plan is the main component of
this INTASC principle. The principle is
about how the student teacher motivates, monitors, and controls behaviors in a
classroom. This artifact is all of
those factors.

Children
should be able to make choices or believe that they are making a choice about
what they are doing themselves. The
children should not be tricked into believing that they are making a choice. The teacher should think of two choices that
the child can pick from and that is how the child believes that they are making
a choice. The children need to know
what is going on in their environment as much as an adult needs or wants to
know what is going on. Children need to
discuss what is going on so they understand what they are doing and what is
going to happen next. Children should
have a chance to make choices but they need to know when they made a safe
choice or an unsafe choice. Safe and
unsafe choices need to be explained and discussed with the children so they
understand. Children need to make
choices about what they are going to play, when and how they are going to go to
the bathroom, and what and how they are going to pick up the toys.
Children
should have a chance to speak up and explain how they feel about being hit,
screamed at, or expressing their feelings.
Using the “I do not like when….” helps the children feel part of the
decision process. The child that hurt
someone should take ownership by asking the other child or person if they are
doing ok and if they can help them in anyway and not just saying sorry.
