Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

INTASC # 10

·  Brief Description of Evidence:

I sent a letter home to the parents the first week that I was at the school informing them that I was going to spend time educating their child.

·  Analysis of What I Learned:

By keeping the parents informed of what was going on in their child’s life, they felt more secure and confident that their child was in good hands.

·  How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Principle:

By sending this letter, I am fostering a relationship with the parents and helping support the students’ well being.

Dear Parents and Students,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I will be assisting Terri Bradburn in teaching your child for the next six weeks.  My name is Jennifer Brown, and I am attending Ball State as an Early Childhood/Special Ed. major and I am now in the process of student teaching in order to gain some actual classroom experience outside the walls of a lecture room.  I am both nervous and excited to be given this opportunity to experience what it is like to actually be given the chance to use the knowledge that I have gained from my past 4 years of college.

I also hope that your child will benefit from his or her experience with me as one of their teachers.  I encourage you, as the parent, to ask the child what happened each day and to go over what they may have learned during the day.  I hope that the rest of the school year turns out well for you.

Sincerely,

                                            Jennifer Brown
