I didn't go to this game but it was great that United won against the bitters.We may have been in the 2nd division but we were still Kings of Mancunian football. United also knocked out 1st division opposition in Burnley and Middleboro.Willie morgan scored a brilliant goal against Burnley and this is on a BBC video"Another 101 Great Goals".Jim White describes this goal in some detail in his book"Manchester United -The Dream Team". We ended up drawing Norwich in the 2 legged semi final.Lou Macari looked to have given United a victory to take to Carrow Road with 2 goals,one a spectacular overhead kick if my memory serves me right.Unfortunatley,Ted MacDougall scored a last minute equaliser for Norwich and the 1 goal in the 2nd leg was enough for them to win through to Wembley. I was heartbroken as my dad had said that we could go if United made it.Mind you,there was plenty of opportunity to visit Wembley in later years. |
