| Back in the 1700's, during the frontier times, Ridge Avenue was an Indian trail. Pleasant Ridge and Amberley Village were "crossroads" for travelers. Early settlers built stations to protect themselves from Indians. One of these stations is McFarland Station. Our first Post Office was built in 1832, run by Oliver Wood, and the first school was built in 1819. Pleasant Ridge got streetlights in 1955. Before streetlights, it was someone's job to hand-light each one. In the early 1900's Ennis Cox was the village police force and official street lighter. |

| The Pleasant Ridge Cemetery is next to the Presbyterian Church. It was a cemetery before the church was built. There is a story that a man named Brewster was looking for a place to bury his wife and child. A man told him of a "pleasant ridge" nearby where their remains would not be disturbed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
