ROOM 103E
SYMPTOMS OF SCHIZOPHRENIA (CONTINUED)
Hallucinations are altered sensory perceptions.  The most common altered sensory perception is that of sound.  A person with sz may hear voices that are not really there.  A common auditory hallucination occurs when the person hears a running dialogue of her thoughts, feelings, and actions.  A person with sz may also see things that others do not see or feel things that are not real such as the sight and/or feeling of bugs crawling on his body.  The other two senses, smell and taste, can also be affected but this is less common.

So, that covers 2 of the symptoms of schizophrenia - delusions and hallucinations.  Keep in mind that a person with sz does not necessarily have to have both delusions and hallucinations to warrant the diagnosis.

Other symptoms will be covered in the next room, Room 103F, the final room in this series.
Hallucinations involve an alteration of one or more of the five senses.
