Sitting

My proud cries for truth,
didn't concern us all that much.
Sitting along the water on the late summer day,
really just enjoying the sun,
and maybe those girls in the pool.

Your discourse about revolutions and knowledge,
and our hilarious quest for those new ideas,
standing there vainly calling out everything,
taught and learned and absorbed through the years,
for our new elaborate diagrams of life.

Sitting now, alone, much later, i understand,
we didn't long so much for the future.
our past dreams and strivings replaced -
so quickly with those we learned,
in our fresh printed books and fresh printed friends,

In our dreams, our quest, our search,
for that unwordable little bit of the goal,
foresaking the very knowledge,
we never really searched for,
asking the gray figure in the street --

Do you know?
