Is it just for fun, to entertain or for business purposes. In fact the site could be for all three reason. Your main purpose as the designer is to know what and why.
When building a website you need to know who is your target audience, which means who is going to be looking at your site and why it is built. Is the site for a specefic group of people or a broad audience. These are some of the main things you need to research before you ever start to build your site. If your site is designed to meet thr needs of a majority of youn adults, ofcourse you would not build it around the needs of people over the age of 60.
