March 6th 1998

Okay so last night was another one of those insane Friday crowded bar nights.  We had thought we had wizened up.  We all decided to go out to a bar again to watch the show.  This time we chose a quieter bar with fewer people.  We knew this bar was quieter because earlier in the week it had been quieter.  It was not quieter.  It was packed last night and we had to sit through the show again in public with people watching us watch ourselves.  It feels moe.  It must have felt really moe for Glenn with his ass all over the place.  Glenn was actually hiding behind a post for the whole show.  Every once and awhile somebody would turn towards the post and shout his name.  Glenn!!!  (If you didn't see it, Glenn bared his ass for six minutes on national TV last night)

Before the show started a bunch of skaters came up to our table in the bar.  They had been skating out in front when they saw Derek walk in.  They followed him to our table... They wanted to go skate.  This was before the show, and I felt like skating.  So we all went out on the street in front of the bar and did some tricks.  I can't skate these small boards that well... Phil and I have old school decks, they're a lot bigger.  Our wheels are bigger than the new boards as well.  So I don't think I did so well on the little skates... But we did some power slides, and some inverts, and some bonelesses... At least I did...  I don't think skaters do those tricks anymore...  It was fun.

After the show ended Glenn and Phil and I went out to another club.  On the way there I played the guys a new M.C. Face song.  MC Face is a rapper that I am currently producing in my spare time.  MC Face is hard-core.  MC Face is called MC Face because nobody has ever seen his face, he wears a mask.  He looks like the guy who sings the opening theme song to The Tom Green Show.  He has a mask just like that.  Nobody has ever seen underneath that mask.  Nobody knows MC Face's true identity.

So I played Glenn and Phil a couple of new tracks.  One of the songs is called Cocaine.  It is the hip hop tale of a young Glenn Humplik who did nothing more than deal and snort his way through high school.  It discusses how Mr. Humplik financed his post secondary education through the illegal practice of dealing coke.  He would deal to his teachers and to his fellow students.  The song is hype.  It has a swingin beat that just about anybody can get into.  Plus the lyrics are quite meaningful.

MC Face has about seven completed tracks, including Slaughter Ya Oughta which has been made into a video to air on our show.  I think once we have gotten about 12 tracks done we're gonna drop it on an indie CD.  The CD will also feature Glenn Humplik, Phil Giroux, Derek Harvie, and myself.  We don't know what we're gonna do yet... But Face really wants us to do some jokes on his record between songs...  So we'll do it for him cause we're all down with that...

So Phil and Glenn really digged the tracks.  We got to the club...  Our good friend Bryan Boswell D.J.'s at a bar in Ottawa called Stoney Monday's.  He is friggin hilarious.  We go to this club all the time now because Boswell is just too hilarious.  He gets on the mike all the time and says crazy shit.  He gets people to get up on the bar and strip...  Then he makes them look like idiots.  I can't really replicate why it's funny in writing... But it's funny.  He's got a very unique style that some people might consider a bit harsh.  Anyway it's pretty cool because you kind of get a bit of comedy with your music and your beer...  Stoney Mondays is in Ottawa's Byward market... You should go check out D.J. Bryan... Hilarious.

The downside of the evening was there were some drunken idiots.  We are starting to get harassed by the occasional drunken human.  It seems that lately... There have been people being a little bit more vocal with the idiocy...  Some drunk 21 year old came up to us last night and started shouting at Glenn and I...  I think he was calling me "Funny Boy"  I'm not sure it was something like that...  It was actually mildly amusing for about 3 and a half seconds, but then it wore thin...  Ten minutes later he was still beating away at his angle, saying some bull shit it wasn't that funny anymore....  He was trying to impress his friends, but the funny part was he was so hammered that he didn't notice that his friends were all embarrassed and apologetic...  He would yell some burn at Glenn, like calling him Ed or Andy.... (This was also funny the first time we heard it... in 1994)  He'd look at his friends for support and they would be all silent.  They would try to drag him away from us but he would keep coming back...  His friends would sheepishly look at us and kind of shrug their shoulders, while drunko kept on spewing his crap.  Often in these type of environments, and more and more lately, Glenn and Phil and I feel like we may get punched.  For the most part people are totally cool, but every couple of days ya get somebody who has a problem... Probably pissed off that they weren't allowed to do their stand-up comedy routine at their high school talent competition... They feel completely gypped because they know they are really really funny, and all the guys they go drink with laugh hysterically at the crazy things they do...  Like one joke I love is when they yell at the top of their lungs "Gary sucks dick!!!"  That kind of wit is always great for a chortle...  So anyway, these failed high school talent competition comics, or University of Ottawa rugby team mascots...  These jokers sometimes take their frustrations out on Glenn and I....  It's fun.

By the way... I have received several email from ingenious people who have gotten Camilla Scott tickets in the past few days.  These ingenious razzers definitely deserve to be in the hall of fame for razzing.  I'm going to talk to the producers at the show again on Monday and see if there is some way that some of you people can get in...  I'm sure that the hard-core razzers won't really need any of my help...  But it would be fun if we could all get in and hang out after the show for a bit on Thursday...

See Ya On Thursday.
