The Adoption
We were shocked beyond words at the suspicion that we had entered into an illegal scheme for Natasha to get money for selling Tanya to me.  Fortunately no money had ever exchanged hands except for Tanyas care.  Then to hear that the judge would not rule in favor of the adoption because Tanya was already in a home, a Russian home, which is preferable, so whats the point of the adoption?  We were truly anxious, and all of the officials spoke gloom and doom.  I was reminded that faith is not fearlessness!  We prayed, gave our anxiety to God, and continued trusting Him in the face of our collective fear.  I gave Tanya a general picture as Id made it a practice to make her aware of what could affect her life.  I remember so many things done to and with me as a kid no one ever explained.  The damage of this was long-lasting and deep.  I didnt want to repeat this mistake, despite good intentions.  Tanya laid her trust at her Fathers feet, as shed been taught to do, along with her Mama Natasha and Mama Leeza.

The day before the court hearing, April 3rd, I was working at my computer when the telephone rang.  It was Lena Kosikh, a dear friend who I see very rarely.  Lena speaks English and I had met her when she was studying with my colleagues Joyce and Charlene during my first tour.  Wed kept in touch now and then, but our paths seldom crossed.  One time they crossed in the States when Lena and her son Stas, and her sister-in-law, also named Lena, came to visit Charlene and Joyce.  It turns out that the sister-in-law is a prosecutor in the very court where our hearing was to be held.  What Lena called to tell me nearly knocked me out of my chair!

Elizabeth, we know about the hearing tomorrow for Tanyas adoption.  I just wanted to tell you that my sister-in-law, Lena, is a prosecutor in that court and has gone to speak to the judge on your behalf.  I have also written a letter of recommendation for you.  Please do not worry.  All will be well.
