Shoeless Joe Jackson was one of eight players who were banned from baseball because of the 1919 blacksox scandal.  Joe was one of the most natural hitters the game has ever seen. Statistics don't lie.  There is no proof that he did anything wrong to throw the 1919 World Series.  He played his heart out for the game he loved.  In the series he batted .375, had 13 hits, threw out 5 baserunners, and did not commit a single error,
He earned his nickname early in his career.  He had a new cleats that had worn blisters on the bottoms of his feet.  The followiing day Joe was needed to bat, because the team was short on players.  He then proceeded to play without shoes or socks.  He ripped a triple, and a fan hollered "You shoeless son of a gun".  Later reporters began calling him "shoeless."

Joes' Glove -  "The place where triples go to die."
"I copied Jackson's style because I thought he was the greatest hitter I had ever seen, the greatest hitter I ever saw.  He's the guy that made me a hitter." - Babe Ruth
