Be Creative with Prayer
Have you ever had a prayer when your too tired to pray. Half way through you realize that your not even praying anymore but figuring out your finances. So back to the blackboard you go to talk to God. You pray for everyone you know and their needs. You say everything you need. Remembering to add time for a thankyou..for...well everything. And then, oh yes, in his sons name and Amen.
Nothing a good dose of curry couldn't cure I suppose. My biggest hint is when I think half way through my prayer that if I was listening to me, even I'd be board. How is God putting up with this half hearted prayer?
The bible says,
"When you pray don't babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered only by repeating their words again and again. Don't be like them because your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!" Matt 6:7-8
There have been times I have taken advantage of the fact that God knows what I am going to pray for. To me it means that it can never be to late to pray. There is no preorder forms. If the moment has passed you can always pray anways and see what He does, knowing you would pray.
So back to the boring prayer problem. How do you stop repeating your wants. Well let me give you what I started doing.
First. Understand that God already knows what you need. So you can leave that to a one liner in your prayer. Next, He knows what EVERYBODY needs. So there is a second liner. "God please take care of everything I need. You know what that is. Also, watch out for so and so and do what you feel is best in their situation."
Now here is the trick (persay). Just stop. Don't say anything. Listen. Just sit in the presence of God and enjoy his presence. There He is with you. Is there something on your heart to pray about? Then talk to God about it. Tell Him how you feel and what your thinking. Freestyle it and just tell Him about your day. He already knows but He knew what you were going to pray about too.
Some ideas if you tend to wander is grab a piece of paper and pen. Write a letter to God. A prayer of paper. If you have nothing to pray for or your heart just isn't into prayer, sing! Any praise song will do.Also and most important, don't feel that prayer time is only at bed time. Sometimes because of childhood routines we just suppose this . But it is not so. Maybe your tired at night. Perhaps your on fire for God when you wake up. I personally like miday myself. Good ol' quiet time.
Also, I can not undermine the importance of quiet time. Lock yourself in a room for 15 minutes a day and spend it with God. Even if you have nothing to say, spend a literal quiet time with God. Or talk or pray. Just spend time. Later if you want you can bump up the time.
Overall, be creative. God wants to hear from you. However it is that you communicate.
