One day she was walking down the street and saw a face that she had not seen for many years. He wheeled his power chair towards her with a half smile on his face.
"Long time no see." He greeted her.
"Indeed" The man stared at her, his expression unreadable.
"Why'd you really say goodbye?"
"My life was messed up as it was, and then your life got more messed up than it already was. We were in two separate holes, and I wanted to get myself out before I tried to help you and fell further in myself.
I didn't want to wait around for someone while they put their life together. To work hard for my future only to be attached to someone who possibly wouldn't have had to work another day in his life.
Anna said that I was either nieve or gave into my parents. She was wrong, I formed these opinions on my own. Honestly I never thought that you were a loser, only that you were a wonderful writer who simply had to get his life on track. It was easier to try to make you hate me."
He nodded at her. "I'm visiting Illinois for a while and then I'll go back home to my appartment in Jersey. It's wheelchair accessible, I've published several collections of short stories and I'm happy with my life."
"I'm glad to see you got everything you wanted."
"Well, not everything."
