Wonderland
Chapter I PT. I
It all started about two
years ago, me and my parents were on our way to Queens to spend the weekend.
I was gently dosing in the back seat while my parents chatted quietly about
their day. The brief nap didn’t last very long as I heard this sickening
thud and the whole car shook. My parents who never wore seatbelts were thrown
from the car through the windshield. Thankfully I had mine on, but I still
close my eyes at night and see my parents broken and battered bodies lying
bloody in the middle of the street. I found out later that a car had ran a
red light and sideswiped them causing the crash. The ambulance arrived soon
after and took my parents away but no one ever came to deal with me. I was
all alone, sitting by the side of the road sobbing over the loss of my parents.
I don’t know how much time passed, and still no one came for me. It
started to get dark and I started to get scared, I didn’t have much
money, and I was running low on my fix. Around midnight I noticed two shadows
approaching me out of the corner of my eye and I got very scared.
“Hello, are you..”Dee started.
“OK? Something looks wrong.” Dan finished”
“No I am far from OK, this afternoon my parents and me were driving
along when we were hit. My parents are d-d-dead and I have no where to go
and no money. ” Alice sobs.
“You can come with us if you’d like we have a place…”
“Where you could stay. It’s not much but to us…”
“It’s home, and you’re welcome there.”
“Normally I wouldn’t but under the circumstances sure. I’ll
come “home” with you. Oh and by the way my name is Alice”
“Splendiferous to meet you Alice, you’ll get adjusted to it quickly
enough…”
“And over time you’ll come to love it as much as we do.”
“By the way he’s Dan and I’m..”
“Dee, the most beautiful man in the city!” I quirked an eyebrow
at them briefly then actually looked at them for the first time. Dee and Dan
were both about six feet tall. Dee had short dirty blonde hair with the most
amazing pair of blue eyes I’ve ever seen. Dan had medium length black
hair and a lovely pair of green eyes. Apart from each other they would have
been good looking but together they were drop dead gorgeous. We all got moving,
after about two blocks I started to wonder where we were going. I wondered
even more as we entered a subway station not far after that.
“Dee, Dan, is your place in another borough?”
“Well I think you have the wrong idea Alice. We aren’t going much
further..”
“No definitely not much further, Alice, we live in the tunnels. One
that doesn’t see any use…”
“So it’s definitely safe. I’m sorry it’s not a house,
but it’s really a comfortable place..”
“Oh most comfortable, trust me you’ll love it darling.”
“If you say so, lead on so I can see where I’ll be staying.”
We walk through the turn style onto a subway platform. There is no one around
and I’m starting to wonder if they’re just going to rape me or
murder me here. We hop down onto the rails and keep walking. After maybe a
quarter of a mile we come to a lovely wooden door with a floral wreath hung
on it.
“Welcome my dear Alice to what we affectionately call..”
“The Rabbit Hole. It may not look like much from out here but inside
it’s much better.” They then open the door and we go inside, and
I have to admit, they were right. It’s much better on the inside. In
the first room there is a battered couch that someone must have abandoned,
a little beat up but not bad overall. I’d seen worse inside people’s
apartments. There is also a beat up entertainment center with an ancient TV
that appears to be working order as it was on and playing one of my all time
favorite movies The Breakfast Club. Sitting on the couch is a short nervous
looking white man. He’s the whitest man I’ve ever seen.
“White, this is our new roommate…”
“Alice. She’s had a very hard day and would probably…”
“Like some time to relax. Alice the second door…”
“On the left is a room you can use. It’s currently…”
“Unoccupied consider it yours. I’m sorry it’s…”
“Not what you’re used to but we do the best…”
“That we can.”
“Thank you Dee and Dan. It’ll be perfect and much better than
what I was looking at before you two came along. Oh and hello White.”
“Hi hi hi…sorry I can’t stay I’m so late…very
late indeed…late for a very important date…I must take my leave
and be off with much speed.” With that he gets up off the couch and
quickly hurries out the door. I turn to Dee and Dan and give them a questioning
look.
“Alice, White isn’t exactly all there…”
“Too many years using speed has made him…”
“Quite paranoid and delusional…oh and…”
“We call him White because he’s an…”
“Albino. I’m sure you noticed that he’s…”
“Very very pale. Enough of this for…”
“Tonight please my dear take your leave and…”
“Rest in your room, we will have some…”
“Breakfast for you in the morning…”
