Eaton Broomball League
Official Rules
SECTION I.  EQUIPMENT
1. All league players are welcome to supply their own equipment for games.  Only helmets, sticks, and balls will be provided at the arena.
2. Spiked shoes and cleats are prohibited.

SECTION II. GENERAL GAME PLAY
1. Teams shall each have 5-7 people on the ice during play.  This includes a goaltender.  All other players must stay on the bench and be "substituted" during play.
2. A goal is scored when the ball crosses the goal line and enters the goal.
          A. The ball must just cross the line to be counted.  It must cross the line completely but does not have to hit the back of the net.
          B. A goal cannot be scored by a kick or directed into the goal intentionally by a different body part.  It must be shot into the goal directly off a stick or be the result of a deflection off any body part or equipment in game play.
3. After a goal is scored, a faceoff will occur.  The ball will be dropped at center ice between two opposing players by a referee (or another player).
4. Goaltenders are the only players allowed to catch and hold the ball during gameplay.
          A. A goaltender who catches/holds a ball must put the ball back into play.
          B. He/she may attempt to throw the ball to any area on the ice.  The ball does not have to remain rolling on the ice (this is different from regular rec-league broomball)
5. A player may not deliberately throw his/her stick at any time.
6. Checking is not allowed but moderate bumping is encouraged. Slapping the buttocks of other players is also encouraged.

SECTION III.  TIME AND SCORING.
1. Games are played in a one hour time block. After a brief warm-up, the remaining time will be divided evenly into three periods.
          A. There will be a short break between periods.
          B. There is no maximum time limit set for this break.  However, players are encouraged to take their break quickly so that the game may resume as soon as possible.
2. There are no overtimes or shootouts.  A game may end in a tie.  But ties suck.
3. Obviously one point is awarded for each goal scored.

SECTION IV.  CONDUCT
1. All players will conduct themselves in a mature and respectful manner.  Remember, this is just for fun! 2. Players must acknowledge the fact that broomball is played on a slippery surface and accidents may happen as a result of slips, slides, and falls.
3. Foul language is encouraged as exclamations.  It is prohibited for hostile name-calling.

SECTION V.  DISCLAIMER
1. To participate in an Eaton Broomball League game, all players agree to abide by the rules above.  Failure to do so will result in suspension, banishment, and/or wedgies.
2. Rules may be ammended at any time.
