| For those of you who have been following this column from the beginning, you know that we are huge fans of ethnic foods. Whether it is Italian, Greek, Chinese, or British, we love it all! Both of us having had the opportunity to travel the world and sample all the good foods available in various foreign countries has helped develop a love for many styles of cuisine. We are constantly on the lookout locally for any restaurant that will allow |

| will allow us to taste those familiar flavors again. Gondola Restaurant of Cookeville is such a place. We have both visited Gondola many times throughout the years. It is almost a guarantee that many of you have been there a few times yourselves to eat some of the best pizza to be found in this area. But, have you been there lately? Gondola is experiencing a renaissance under owners Nick & Kathy Maggas. We recommend that you visit them again very soon. Once we were seated and opened up the menu during our recent visit, it was not too hard to imagine that we were in a nice little restaurant in Florence or Athens. As we looked down the page, we saw delicious offerings such as Spanachopita (a great Spinach and Onion dish covered with Phyllo Dough), Shrimp a la Mikonos, Gyros, Chicken Athena, Souvlaki Sandwiches, and Veal Parmigiana. Even if Italian and Greek foods are not for you, there is still no reason not to visit Gondola. That famous Pizza is still on the menu. They also have a huge selection of beautifully prepared Appetizers, Burgers, Seafood dishes, Sandwiches, Steaks, and Salads. As a matter of fact, they have the best Greek Salad to be found anywhere in the Upper Cumberland. We sampled the Gyro Dinner, Lasagna, and Moussaka (a Greek specialty, which contains Ground Beef, Sliced Eggplant, & Sliced Potato, topped with a Bchamel Cheese Egg Cream Sauce). Everything we ate was well cooked and served by the most courteous and charming waitress we have encountered in quite some time. If you are searching for good food in Cookeville, look for the familiar red sign topped by a gondolier. Gondola will not disappoint. They are located at 1156 S. Jefferson Avenue. Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10: 30 p.m. For more information, give them a call at 931-526-1535.
