Over the past few months, we have received several letters from readers asking us to recommend a good place for Mexican food. As many of you know, there are many Mexican restaurants to choose from in this area. However, we did not want to
recommend one to our readers without doing some research. We were looking for something unique, something out of the ordinary. After much thought, our recommendation is El Rey in Livingston.
El Rey is located at 209 S. Spring Street, just a couple of blocks from the courthouse square. When you visit, you will find all the familiar favorites. Also, you will see some new updated versions of those favorites. We encourage you to be daring and adventurous. Try something you have never eaten before. For that matter, try something you have never even heard of before.
During our recent visit, we sampled the Texas Fajita, which contains Grilled Steak, Shrimp, Chicken, Peppers, and Onions. We had eaten fajitas before in many different restaurants, but we found these to be very tasty and fresh. We also tried the Chicken Chimichanga. It is a deep-fried pocket of Chicken covered with a delicious Cheese Sauce. It is served with Refried Beans, Rice, Sour Cream, and Guacamole. It was an awesome dish.
Some very exciting house specialties are now being served at El Rey. They include a Quesadilla with Grilled Shrimp and a Quesadilla with Carne Asada Steak & a ChimiCurry Sauce. This sauce is difficult to describe, but please give it a try. You will love it.
Dessert lovers will not feel neglected at El Rey. We recommend the Fried Ice
Cream, the Sopapilla with Ice Cream, and the Flan, which is a very traditional
               sweet custard dish.
For more information and hours of operation, call El Rey at 931-823-7725.
If Mexican food is what you love, you will really enjoy El Rey.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all once again for reading our column. We are so happy that you enjoy it. What we really love is when we see people in town or at church and they tell us how much they liked one of the restaurants we recommended. That makes it all worthwhile.
Please continue to send your questions and comments to us at [email protected], or write to us at P.O. Box 3393, Cookeville, TN, 38502-3393. Until next week, we wish you health, wealth, and a good appetite.
