| After the backplates are traced onto the Sintra, we cut them out with a Jigsaw. Next, we sand and deburr them with a Beltsander and 100 & 150 grit sandpaper. Now they are ready to be shaped. | |||||||||||||||||
| As we mentioned earlier in the armor section, Sintra can be molded and shaped by being emersed in hot, boiling water for about 10 - 15 seconds at a time. So we set up a "boiling center" in Mike's backyard (as you can see to the left) to boil the water and shape the backplates and armor pieces. For the small armor pieces, such as the shoulder and chest pieces, we boiled some water on a camping stove and emersed them in that. For the larger pieces, such as the backplates, we boiled | |||||||||||||||||

Next, we quickly pulled it out and shaped it on a volunteer's back, as you can see below. | |||||||||||||||||

| Once the backplate is shaped, we dump cold water over it to "freeze" the armor into shape, as you can see below. We must do this with every piece of armor. | |||||||||||||||||
