Results: ICE HOCKEY (Women) November 15, 2003 After a great struggle in the main competition for the Women's Title in Ice Hockey in the Winter Games, the Prussians rally a come back to sneak a win by Akhtendum in a Shootout 6-4 F/OT Giving The Prussians the Gold, and Akhtendum the Silver Medal. Game Summary: The first period was completely dominated by the African team, as the they seemed to have something to prove, as the Prussian Goaltender Stephanie Wartosch-Kurten handled 8 shots in the first 2 minutes and then allowing an early goal by Akhtendum's Setshe Wrekabe (C). After the first period the African team held a 1-0 lead. The Prussians came on strong in the second period, as 6 shots came quickly, but a lone shot by Akhtendum put them on top 2-0 after the late breakaway by Sellette Chenn Feren (RW) threw the puck right past Goaltender Wartosch-Kurten. Akhtendum played great defense in the 3rd period trying to hold back the Prussian attack, but an early Cross-Checking call on Szohay Rahat (LD) put the Prussians on the Power Play and a goal came soon after that as Julia Wierscher (RW) threw a wrist shot that bounced off the crossbar and into the net. Making the Score 2-1 Akhtendum. Akhtendum looked to make it 3-1, but after a shot sailed by Wartosch-Kurten and hit the post, the puck bounced back towards the opposite side of the ice, allowing the faster Anja Scheytt (LW) to toss the puck past Goalie Nefertiti Gamal with only 5:11 left in the game. Akhtendum raced back, as Sellette Chenn Feren scored her second goal of the game inching Akhtendum ahead 3-2. As the game got close to the end, the Eastern German team put up a huge battle to try to score. With only :30 left in the game they pulled Goalie Stephanie Wartosch-Kurten for the extra attacker on the ice. Akhtendum nearly scored on the empty net, as the punk sailed just wide right. Extra attacker Maren Valenti gave the Prussians last thing they needed, as she raced back to the other end, she made the excellent pass to Anja Scheytt for her second goal of the game, with only 00:12:62 seconds left in regulation. In overtime the two teams showed some defense that they both could have used earlier in the game, as nothing big happened taking the game to a shootout. Akhtendum showed some problems getting the puck by Wartosch-Kurten as only Hatshesut Denorn was able to score, on the 2nd shot for Akhtendum. After this key moment the Akhtendum goalie just fell apart, allowing 3 Prussian goals giving Raffaela Wolf (C) her first and Julia Wierscher another after Anja Scheytt had the hat trick, and game winning goal as New East Prussia defeats Akhtendum in perhaps the best game we may ever see, 6-4.
