The Volunteer Fire Company was formally organized on November 5, 1943. The first fire truck was a used 1933 Horner truck, which was converted and mounted with a skid pump. The ground where the present firehall stands was donated by Don Leckey, and the building was constructed at a cost of $9,797. The junior Fire Company was organized on September 7, 1945. Today the Fire Company has up to date equipment and apparatus, a specialized team of Emergency Medical Technicians, and a water search & rescue SCUBA Dive Team.
