Vinton Cerf

Vinton Cerf Father of the Internet many people have been called the father of the internet or one of the fathers of the Internet, but if one man is to be called the Father of the Internet it would have to be Vinton Cerf. Why? Well first I'll start with a little background. Vinton started as a smart youth with a penchant for suits. He went to stanford and graduated with a math degree in 1965, then went to work for IBM. After a short time at IBM he decided to return to school to learn more about Computers, this is when he started really getting into the whole computer field. His first big project was the Snuper computer, no that isn't a typo it is snuper. The snuper computer was designed to watch what another computer was doing, most likely the Predecessor of todays Remote Access on computers. He then became involved in the ARPANET, the first computer network. He was originally involved in perfomance testing and anlysis but became involved in other areas. His claim to fame and the title of Father of the Internet is that he and Bob Kahn created TCP, Transmission Control Protocol. TCP is important because it is a standardization of how computers interact, otherwise your computer might not be able to understand what this site says. This allowed all of the different networks to be combined together under the one standard to form the Internet. He then Later split TCP into IP and TCP forming what we now use TCP/IP. Cerf is currently working on a new network that I think I will call the UWW, Universe Wide Web. Cerf is currently working with Nasa on a Interplanetary web.
