Father of the Modern Web Browser
Marc Andreesen the creator of the modern web browser. Most people have never heard of this developer but almost everyone uses a product closely tied to him. In 1992 Andreesen was a student and worker at National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the university of Illinois here he was able to use the Internet. At the time the browsers that existed were mainly used by people in the research and educational fields and were not user friendly at all. Marc decided he wanted to change that, so after months of tireless work with the help of Eric Bina their browser was finished, Mosaic. This web browser was a major milestone in the development of the internet. This new browser was easy to use supported images and introduced many of the features we know use on our web browsers. Mosiac enjoyed instant success quickly becoming the most widely used web browser, But Marc soon realized that Mosaic belonged to NCSA and that after he graduated he would have no part in Mosaic anymore, and also no share in any of the profits. So after Marc graduated he moved to Silicon Valley and quickly hooked up with Jim Clark, an owner of a computer graphics company. Marc wanted to build a bigger and better browser than the original mosaic, and Jim had the desire and money to do this. So Marc acquired a stuff of former college friends and colleagues and started to build Netscape Mosaic. So after countless long weeks and months Netscape Mosiac was released. Netscape Mosaic originally cost money but there were and abundance of ways to get around this that it was basically free for basic versions, due to this it quickly gained popularity and a lawsuit as well. NCSA filed a lawsuit against Netscape Mosaic, charging Netscape with stealing mosaic and using their name. The court case lasted three months and in the end Netscap Mosiac was renamed Netscape Communication Corporation and kept the browser, the case cost Netscape $3 million. After this stumble in the road netscape and Marc Andreesen went back onto the road to success and by 1996 75% of web users used the Netscape browser. Netscape then became complacent having a better browser than Microsoft, this was their downfall. Microsoft started coming out with new improvements and the price was always free, unlike Netscape, and they were fighting Microsoft which almost always guarantees a lose. In 1999 Netscape gave in and sold out too America Online where it still exists and is used by a small user base, including me.
